Did you know that it’s possible to experience all four seasons on the Big Island in one day? It’s true!
People often wonder what the weather is like in Hawai’i. “Is it cold?”, “Does it snow there?”, “Is it warm all year long?”. Well, to tell you the truth, the answers can vary greatly depending on what part(s) of our island you are going to be visiting.
Most visitors don’t know that when you travel around the Big Island, you need to bring a jacket, wear a comfortable pair of shoes, and on occasion, maybe bring a heavy jacket and pants.
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter: four seasons on the Big Island that you can experience in one day
Fun fact: Hawai’i Island actually has 11 of the world’s 13 climactic zones!
At just over 4,000 square miles (and growing), the Big Island is one of the most ecological diverse places on the planet! Our climates range from the obvious “humid tropical” climate to the extremes of “polar” climates at the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
Another fun fact: We trekked up Mauna Loa in June and there were still patches of snow around the 13,000ft level and even some still in Moku’aweoweo Crater. Mauna Kea is also known for it’s beautiful snowy cap during our winter months. In fact, Mauna Kea is Hawai’ian for “White Mountain”.
Truth be told, there aren’t too many places in the world that you can snowboard in the morning and surf in the afternoon… In other words, you can literally go through all four seasons on the Big Island in just 1 day. Needless to say that this island is truly amazing!
Experience all four seasons on the Big Island full on and book our tour!
Before you book your next ski trip to the Big Island, keep perspective. We’re still a “surf shorts and slippahs (flip flops)” island most of the time. Our weather here is warm to hot most of the year, during the day. Higher elevations can cool down into the 50s in the early morning and late evening.
On our Deluxe Tour, we experience it all! In fact, it’s pretty special to experience all four seasons on the Big Island in just one day.
Wanna know how? Here’s what we offer on our exclusive Island Deluxe Tour:
- We pick up and start our day on the Summer Side of the island – the Kona Side.
- We walk through Rainbow Falls on the Spring Side of the island – the Hilo Side.
- Together we’ll discover lava tubes and volcanoes on the Autumn Side of the Island – Kilauea.
- We drive in high elevations along Mauna Kea’s slopes on the Winter Side – Saddle Road.
While it’s true that most of us forget what season it is, we can be sure to enjoy our favorite any day of the year!
